This series consists of manuscripts, galley proofs, notes, articles, and other writings by Robert E. Peary. Included are manuscripts and drafts of Robert E. Peary's books such as “Northward over the 'Great Ice',” “The North Pole,” “Nearest the Pole,” and “Secrets of Polar Travel.” Also included are articles written and published by Robert E. Peary such as “The Inland Ice of Greenland” published in “Goldthwaite's Geographical Magazine” (1891); “The Story of a Guidon” published in “Harper's Young People” (1893); “Our Arctic Story” published in “Harper's Young People” (1893); “In an Arctic Hurricane” published in “The Youth's Companion” (1899); “Fighting the Arctic Ice” published in “The Youth's Companion” (1905);“The North Greenland Expedition of 1891-92” published in “Bulletin of the American Geographical Society” (1892); “'On Toward the North Pole'” published in “The World Magazine” (1905); and “Nearest the North Pole” published in the “Harper's Monthly Magazine” (1907). There are also lectures and speeches given by Robert E. Peary on several occasions such as a lecture at the Brooklyn Institute (1890); “Address of President Peary” delivered at the Annual Meeting of the American Geographical Society (1905); lecture before members of the National Geographical Society (1903); speech of Robert E. Peary at Bowdoin Alumni Dinner, Washington, D.C. (1904); address at the Banquets of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and Alumni of the College of the City of New York (1910);and lecture on the discovery of the North Pole given in New Masonic Temple, Washington D.C. (1909). There are handwritten and typed drafts, manuscripts and notes of writings authored by Robert E. Peary as well as photographs related to the writings. Also included are records pertaining to meteorites as well as fragments of meteorites.
